About Greywater

Using shower water (and small amounts of eco-friendly soaps / shampoos) provides a safe, environmentally friendly way to water your plants.

Here at Easy Greywater we provide you with the tools to design a simple system to divert the water you already paid for, onto your bushes shrubs, flowers or lawn.

Who Is The Video For?

We will walk you through an awesome home improvement project that incorporates some components which may be unfamiliar to you. If you are a homeowner looking for a fun project that will save you money, this video is right up your alley.

If you are handy (or have a friend who is handy) you can totally do this. All you need is a few common tools and a couple of trips to the hardware store.

But Is It Safe?

Watering with re-claimed shower water is sort of gross. There, we said it. Worse case scenario, Only you know what you do in your shower.... but greywater is probably not that much different than the occcasional pee on a tree in your yard (and c'mon we know you've done that).

A good greywater system filters water through sand, mesh, and gravel. The most advanced have reeds growing in the water to absorb "nutrients". Some even have small fishes swimming in them! However, this is EasyGreywater. Our systems don't have any of that stuff. You may produce water that is slightly alkaline from soap and body salts, but really we think its okay.

We DO NOT recommend using greywater to irrigate vegetables. If you are really worried about safety read this. Even the State Water Board is getting behind greywater systems. This document was pulled from the California State Waterboard Website, titled "Reducing Wastewater Generation" (PDF).
